OMI’s journey began in 2018, following Hurricane Michael and other hurricanes and catastrophic events that highlighted the vulnerability of traditional construction methods. This motivated OMI to invest in innovative building solutions that meet or exceed building codes while delivering superior strength, thermal performance, indoor air quality (IAQ), and disaster resilience. Through extensive research and development (R&D), OMI created multiple proprietary products, including magnesium oxide (MgO) board and a Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) that combines steel framing with expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation, encased in dual MgO board layers. This system outperforms conventional building materials in terms of structural integrity and environmental sustainability, while remaining cost-effective for widespread deployment. OMI also provides PolyGuard ^TM, an advanced, environmentally-friendly building material that it markets to recreational vehicle (RV) and mobile home manufacturers.
